Frequently Asked Questions

  • What paint do you use?
We’re a certified ShieldCoat specialist and strongly advocate use of their coatings, paints, and protective membranes throughout our work. However, we’re more than happy to adapt to the individual requirements of each project, including utilising brands nominated by the customer.
  • Do you have Business Insurance?
Yes. We’re insured via Public Liability Insurance. Upon engaging our service we’re happy to send through our policy number if requested.
  • What sets you apart from others in this sector?
Transparency and effective communication. We let you know what the expected process is from day one! On top of that we provide a report of the roof both prior to the work being done and after, including pictures.
  • Do you utilise chemicals during a water tank clean?
Absolutely not! We use only natural products and high pressure washing during a water tank cleanse.
  • Do you use chemicals in other processes?
Only when necessary. For terracotta roofs, or roofs exhibiting a phenomenal amount of mould, using chemicals is standard, otherwise we do our best to refrain from using harsh chemicals.
  • What security measures do you employ?
We utilise scaffolding if the budget allows it, but can also complete jobs utilising safety harness systems in lieu of scaffolding.
  • What comes standard as part of your painting package?
As standard we employ 2 coats of paint to provide adequate protection to your dwelling, however we often recommend 3 coats to increase the lifespan of the outcome.
  • What comes as standard during a roof clean/restoration?
To prevent leaking we’ll remove tiles to complete a thorough clean underneath before returning the tiles to their original location. As part of our standard roof cleaning we also clean and paint gutters where required.
  • Which is preferable, thick or thin pointing?
We endorse the use of thick pointing to improve the lifespan of the outcome, however it is no thicker than a thumb. We also strive to provide incredibly smooth pointing in order to prevent leakage while improving on the roof's aesthetic.
  • Filler bond primer or just ordinary primer?
We strongly recommend using filler bond on any porous tile, however, if it’s been painted before there no need to use it!
  • Why is it so important to paint the noses of the bottom rungs of tiles?
While often overlooked due to the challenging nature of access, we cannot stress enough the importance of applying an excess of paint to the bottom 3 rungs of tiles as any exposed tile will grow mould extremely fast.
  • How many coats do you do as standard and do you do a clear coat?
Our standard is 1 primer, 2 colours, and 1 clear but we can also provide 2 primer, 2 colours, and 1 clear or even 3 colour!
  • When is it necessary to get a new roof or re-sark due to ageing?
We recommend getting multiple professional opinions on the matter due to the expensive nature of the project.
  • How does your process work, is a deposit required?
Our process is completely transparent. Once you’ve provided context, we provide a quote and once that is accepted we invoice you for a deposit. We will then see the job through until the very end, including addressing any concerns you have once the job is complete. During the project we do not schedule in other customers, so you can rest assured we’ll be focusing solely on completing the job in a timely and effective manner.
